Mortels Sheepskin Factory's Commitment to Sustainability

Can Sheepskin Be A Sustainable Practice?

Yes! Sustainable manufacturing is the process of creating products in a way that minimises negative environmental impacts, conserves resources, and promotes social and economic well-being. It is an increasingly important issue in today's world, as the demand for goods continues to grow and the impact of manufacturing on the environment becomes more apparent.

Mortels is a family-owned business that has been producing high-quality sheepskin products for over 65 years. We are committed to operating in an environmentally responsible manner and have implemented a number of practices to reduce their environmental impact.

Solar Power: Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Australia's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions is strong, setting a target of reducing emissions by 26-28% below 2005 levels by 2030. That’s why one of the most notable practices that we have implemented is our use of solar power.

Our factory is equipped with a large 250 solar panel system that generates a significant portion of the energy needed to power the factory's operations. Having a direct impact on the production of our sheepskin products.  In fact, 50% of their boots are made by the sun, which means that 1 out of every 2  boots is manufactured using renewable solar energy.

This not only reduces our carbon footprint but also sets a positive example for other companies in the industry to follow.

By demonstrating that sustainable manufacturing practices can be both economically viable and environmentally responsible, we are leading by example, paving the way for a more sustainable future in the sheepskin industry.

Recycling and Reusing Materials: Minimizing Waste

We have a strong commitment to recycling and reusing materials. We make sure to recycle all of the scraps of sheepskin by using them to create new products. Additionally, we recycle all of the cardboard, paper, and plastic waste in the factory, reducing the amount of waste that needs to be disposed of in landfills.

Social Sustainability: Providing Fair Wages and Safe Working Conditions

In addition to these environmental practices, we also place a strong emphasis on social sustainability, by being committed to providing fair wages and safe working conditions for our employees and actively engaging with the local community through charitable events and donations.

Sustainable manufacturing is crucial to protecting the environment and promoting social and economic well-being. We work towards being a prime example of a company that embraces sustainable practices, and our efforts demonstrate that it is possible to operate a successful business while also minimising negative environmental impacts. As consumers and companies, it is our responsibility to support sustainable manufacturing practices and encourage others to do the same.
